Tasting Notes
Our 2023 Estate Merlot offers perfume notes of fresh berries and star anise. On the palate, savoury oak characters are balanced with warm spiced berries.
Vinification
Merlot grapes are handpicked, de-stemmed and crushed into open-top fermenters. The wine is then gently pressed and matured in French oak barriques for 18 months.

2023 Vintage
The 2023 growing season was cooler than expected, extending the ripening season and pushing harvest dates out. This parcel of fruit was hand picked on the 24th of March.

" Deep garnet with a pale crimson rim, the nose offers aromas of plums, leather, animal flesh, dried herbs, bay leaves, fruit cake, a touch of chocolate and aniseed. There is a generous and approachable plushness on the palate, with a soft texture through to the velvety tannins. Good balance throughout, this is a delicious and refreshing Merlot which, if cellared well, should provide pleasure for the next decade".

22 ACRES OF MATURE VINES
Gioiello Estate's vineyard is located within the Yea Valley on the Goulburn River, on the lower reaches of 651 metre high Mt Concord. Our 22 acres of mature vines were planted on north facing slopes between 1987 and 1992.
