Tasting Notes
Our 2021 Old House Merlot is deep garnet in colour. It offers aromatics of red berries and warm spices. The palate is rich in fruit flavour while maintaining good tannin structure.
Vinification
Merlot grapes are handpicked, de-stemmed and crushed into open-top fermenters. The wine is gently pressed and matured in French oak barriques for 18 months. 40% new.

2021 Vintage
2021 was a mild and sunny vintage with good rainfall at key times, resulting in healthy vines, an excellent ripening season, great fruit flavour development and balanced acids. This parcel of merlot was hand picked on the 16th of March.
Wine Reviews
" Fans of the grape will surely be excited with this example, already benefiting from several years in the cellar. Dark maroon in colour, the nose exhibits notes of roast meats, dried herbs, Christmas Cake, undergrowth, bay leaves, black cherries and plums. There is a little more complexity here, than we find in the estate Merlot, as to be expected. A seductively supple texture, there are fine, sleek tannins and a lingering finish. For drinking over the next six to eight years, this is an impressive wine".
