Old Hill Chardonnay 2023

Tasting Notes
Our 2023 Old Hill Chardonnay exhibits aromatics of roasted cashew, baked brioche and citrus. On the palate, excellent structure and length are complemented by brioche, lemon and lime and white blossom.
Vinification
The Old Hill block chardonnay grapes were hand-picked and fermented in French oak barriques ( 40% new ) using wild yeast and left to mature on lees for eight months.

2023 Vintage
The 2023 vintage was cooler than expected, extending the ripening season and pushing harvest dates out to 8th of March. The fruit hand picked delivered gorgeous aromas and flavours and beautifully balanced wines.

"An elegant and delicately framed Chardonnay from this cooler than usual season in the Upper Goulburn. The Old Hill is the oldest vineyard on the estate having been planted in 1987. The aroma shows hints of roasted cashew and quince with a little lemon curd and brioche. The palate has a slightly saline character complementing the grapefruit and cut lime nuances. Oak is brilliantly applied. A super wine. Score 95/100, cellar 9 years". $40

Vineyard
22 ACRES OF MATURE VINES
Gioiello Estate's vineyard is located within the Yea Valley on the Goulburn River, on the lower reaches of 651 metre high Mt Concord. Our 22 acres of mature vines were planted on north facing slopes between 1987 and 1992.
