Old House Merlot 2014

Tasting Notes
This wine displays lifted notes of violets and rich cherry fruit. The palate fruit's richness and structure are balanced with refined tannins and savoury notes of toasty French oak and black olive.
Vinification
Merlot grapes selected from the old house block are hand-picked, destemmed and crushed into open-top fermenters. The wine is gently pressed and matured in French oak barriques for 18 months.

2014 Vintage
The 2014 growing season saw mild and warm conditions allowing for even ripening and a slightly earlier harvest. The vintage proved to be a low yielding crop year which resulted in high quality and concentrated flavour grapes.

"Hand-picked, destemmed and crushed, open-fermented, matured in French barriques for 18 months. Fragrant cherry and plum aromas lead into a palate with vibrant spicy, savoury nuances threaded through the fruits promised by the bouquet. This, so far as I am concerned, is real merlot a la Bordeaux, with good length and balance."

Vineyard
22 ACRES OF MATURE VINES
Gioiello Estate's vineyard is located within the Yea Valley on the Goulburn River, on the lower reaches of 651 metre high Mt Concord. Our 22 acres of mature vines were planted on north facing slopes between 1987 and 1992.
